The Dodgers will take it all now!

Gregg Maddux is a Dodger......it's all over but the shoutin' in the NL West!

I will say that the Dodgers are a vastly improved team with their trade pick ups. But coming from dead to alive takes a lot more than a few players. It takes heart. I'm not sure they received the heart transplant they needed.

The Dodgers improved?

Hardly.

The positives: Maddux will give them a professionalism that they've been lacking (are you listening JD Drew and Jeff Kent?) and is good for a solid 6 innings.

The negatives: Maddux will ONLY give them 6 innings at this stage of his career, and his ERA this year is 4.69. If the Dodgers want to make a run, they need an innings eater to take pressure off the 'pen...a 'pen without a closer.

Lugo's a decent pickup...again, not the sort of guy who can make a substantial difference other than they needed another infielder with Izturis off to Chicago. Have to say, I'm glad Izturis is out of the NL West, if only because he ALWAYS wreaked havoc against the Giants.

Of course, with regard to the sorry state of Los Gigantes, we too have no closer (Benitez? 3 STRAIGHT BLOWN SAVE???), our rotation (aside from Schmidt) continues to struggle past 6 innings, the bullpen is about to go to closer by committee (Yikes), no one's hitting unless your name is Winn or Vizquel, and they've lost 8 in a row (but still remain 4 games back!)

No way anyone in the NL West makes it past the 1st round of the playoffs.

Delusions of grandeur here in the NL West...

I was only joking.....hehe....

You guys know that I am East-Coast Biased. just kidding.

I do think they are improved around the edges but still weak up the middle.

As for my Yankees, I think Abreu will help out but the fact remains that Sheff and Godzilla are out. We need them.

Red Sox stink.

Our senior citizen Maddux threw 6 IP of NO HIT ball. I don't know if we're getting the 5-0 Maddux from April/May or the 4-11 Maddux since.

It's going to be fun though watching how the West was won. It's not going to be fun, as Andy said, seeing it self-destruct against the Mets or the Cards.

That was an impressive start - who knows where that could have gone had it not been for the rain delay.

I'm surprised that Maddux STILL has never had a no-no (lots of 1, 2 and 3 hitters, though).

I still remember a game in 1997 when he threw a 62 pitch complete game for the Braves.

I'm doubly impressed that he never had a no-no and he never played for the Giants. At least if he'd played for the Giants, we'd know why he hadn't thrown a no-no. ;)
