You Are The Coach, Part 3 (Final Lineup)

I'm happy to announce that the Galaxy Commissioner approved of our all-time player lineups. He kept remarking in his best Klingon garble something to the effect of "Dochvam nuq vortek Piazza" which I later found out through translators was he liked that one the best.

Our collective wisdom was so well received that, when finding out who our favorite teams were, he personally requested the best all-time lineups for each of them - Yankees, Giants, Dodgers and Cards. Was there a Cincy fan somewhere here too?

Without further adue coaches, lineup cards please.....

Dodgers all time lineup

C - Roy Campanella (edging out, you guessed it....Pizza boy!)
1B - Gil Hodges (edging out Mr. Forearms, Garvey)
2B - Jackie Robinson (edging out Davey Lopes)
SS - Maury Wills
3B - The Penguin
OF - Duke Snyder
OF - Tommy Davis
OF - Willie Davis
Util - Pedro Guerrero (can play 3B, 1B and OF)
P - Koufax (edging out Sutton and Drysdale)
RP - Gagne
Manager - Walter Alston (edging out the "fat little Italian")

What? No McCarver? ;-)

All time Giants...

C - Historically, one of the weakest positions for the Giants...EVER. But based on 1.5 seasons of defense, the nod here goes to Mike Matheny.

1B - Willie McCovey

2B - Tough call here - if it's for the bat, the nod's got to go to Jeff Kent. If it's for defense, then Robby Thompson. Given the amount of offense in this lineup, I have to go with Robby Thompson.

3B - Matt Williams - most HR by any Giants 3B in team history.

SS - Another position with less than stellar performers over team history. I'll go with defense here and take Chris Speier.

OF - Willie Mays

OF - Barry Bonds

OF - Mel Ott

Util - Orlando Cepeda

P - Carl Hubbell, Christy Mathewson, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry

RP - Robb Nen

Donny Wins! Though Hobbs should start and Snoopy should have the DH - after all, he out hit Hank Aaron. ;)

Andy - I agree mostly... but Mike Benjamin at SS, Will Clark as backup Util, and no way, no how, Jeff Kent makes my all time team. Ever. And Roger Craig as coach.

Marcel - Totally disagree with you. You've got to have the Fat Italian as your coach. He's got a gold medal!

Will - MIKE BENJAMIN???? I'd take Roger "No Fingers" Metzger first.

I can see your point on Clark, but until he's in the HOF, it's still Cepeda.

And you didn't read my post carefully...I selected Thompson for 2B over Kent.

For Manager - need to go old school...John McGraw.

Andy - McGraw definitely has a place in my heart since he told the American League to go stick it in 1905. But, I mean, come on... how can you not like Mike Benjamin!? ;)

And I did read your post correctly, I'm just shocked you'd even consider that guy. In reality, nobody on the All-Giants team should ever be allowed to have played for the Dodgers ;) Period. End of sentence. Sorry Dusty. You were one of my all time faves, but I can't pick you for manager for that reason.

Of course, if the Yankees were to follow that logic with regards to the Red Sox, well... I guess we all know that would never happen since they owe their years of success to one Red Sox in particular.
