Since the post you guys threw out on Tuesday was so fun, I wanted to try my hand at it. I'm not a Science Fiction fan and I hate Star Trek but bear with me. Here's my question:
It's time for the intergalactic baseball championship. You are the coach for the Earth team and you will be playing against seven other teams from all over the galaxy. Who's in your starting line up? (this includes all the positions, a DH, a Utility player plus one pitcher and one reliever)
Also, they have to be active this year.....Clemens can't play.

I'd get Dusty Baker to manage.
I don't think I'd take Bonds this year. I think I'd take Pujols as my DH and I'd take J.T. Snow at 1st because the man is a defensive machine. Further, I think I'd take Mathenny at Catcher because he is a good handler of the pitching staff.
I completely disagree with your pitching choices, but I'm not sure who'd I'd take if I only could take two. Rivera would be a great closer, but I'd think you'd want someone who could potentially go four or five innings if they had to. I'd want workhorses in both positions (like a Randy Johnson circa mid 90's). I think I'd take Jake Peavy as one of my guys since he's young and dominant. And then probably someone like Jason Schmidt who has been a workhorse and won consistently. But with only two pitchers, I'd think you might want to get a really really good defensive pitcher and make them the utility player, so that you could always make a double switch if you needed to bring in a third pitcher. That'd be another reason for leaving Bonds off the roster, since you could switch Pujols with any player as a DH and not lose too much in terms of defense.

I'm really going with some of the YTD top performers, if I had to pick a team based on current performance.
I just had a brain fart. I would take Brandon Webb as my starting pitcher....DUH!
My manager would have to be Lou Pinella with Mickey Rivers at first base and Joe Torre at 3rd.
I'm thinking the Intergalactic Team may not have the best offensive players. So I pick the most balanced team for offense and defense to avoid any embarrassments like the one in the World Baseball League.
C - Mike Matheny (4 time gold glover, including '05)
1B - Pujols (you'd have to be on crack to pick anyone else)
2B - Chase Utley (huge '05 and off to another great start)
SS - Jeter
3B - Eric Chavez (solid #'s and a gold glover in '05)
OF - Ichiro (best hitter and a gold glover in '05)
OF - Vlad Guerrero
OF - Andruw Jones (8 time gold glover + huge #'s)
DH - Big Papi (Ortiz)
Util - Chone Figgins (can play anywhere but catcher and pitcher)
P - Roy Oswalt
RP - Rivera
